 Well, I'll start by saying thank you Mike for posting.

The reel that came in this box(pictured below) is a 500s with newell conversion, and obviously not correct for the box, cause 500s wasn't born till catalog 38. Anyway, I pictured the newell seat on it because I thought the metal tongue insert was abnormal

 The H on the sticker would designate high speed, and "high speed retrieve" was printed right on the box label on jigmaster 500 boxes. This box printed label does say high speed retrieve. The 505HS was still a few years from its intro, so at this point in time the 500 was considered high speed(HS). The L on the sticker makes no sense. This same year was intro of the aluminum spool for a jigmaster 500, the 500L. The sticker on this HL box says it came with a plastic and a chrome spool

   Considering all you've done for me brother...there's no need to thank me...but I appreciate it all the same. That box makes my brain hurt. I'll be wondering what the correct reel looks like now. Fantastic find Ted!

 This is pretty simple to figure out. The sticker says 1 chrome spool, 1 plastic spool. "solid spacer bars" weren't yet invented. It would have standard frame posts. Sorry, but I don't have a clue how to photoshop. What ya see is what ya get

 The correct reel is now with the HL box, and the Newelled 500s that came in this box is now roborn as a more modern day 500s with Cortez Conversions seat and clamp, stock spacer bars & spool, and Alan's perfect size 3/0 knob(thanks boss)

The reborn 500s inspired by Mo and Thor, and most of all by Sal !!
