Just wondering what everyone is using to transport their reels.

I bring the same 6 reels with me every time, 5 conventions up to a Mak 16 size and a 10k size spinner.

Suggestions?

I use both the Shimano medium size reel bag and the big Avet reel bag, depending on how much space I need.

I'm cheap so I've used a bunch of miscellaneous zippered totes, most of which don't last but 2-3 trips before they tear/breakdown somehow. Throw in a couple hand towels and bubble wrap as "dividers". Still got a pretty good supply of em...

I am also a fan of the Large Avet.  Really well padded, good zippers.  Shoulder strap if needed.  Smaller model "may" work for you; but the dividers are fully adjustable.  Also I like the extra pockets that leave plenty of room for tools, wipedown spray, you name it. If you go this way, I would recommend some level of "personalization".  They appear to be really popular and on my 8 day there had to be at least 10 of them on the boat, and while during the trip it lives in my stateroom during the "loading/unloading" process I could see how it could get confused. - john

Plastic stackable commercial milk crate.  Approximately 1 cubic foot.  Add your choice of padding.

I use the ones that say, "Penalty For Private Use".  The beach mysteriously produces these free of charge.

In my college days I was studying photojournalism and carried a minimum 2 35mm cameras, 4 lens, a flash, plus miscellaneous stuff.  The Domke F-1 bag was THE bag to have.  Made of canvas and padded well enough to protect my cameras.  Sadly I sold the camera gear and bag as digital photography took over.  If I still had the bag it would be what I used. A quick look on the big auction site sells around $100.  You could easily get 4 4/0 and a 20 size in the bag.  Bill

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

I once found one covered in gooseneck barnacles and called the company in California whose crate it was.... just like it said to do on the crate. The lady acted like nobody had ever called before and didn't want to pay to ship it back.

There are probably thousands of these wandering around our oceans.  If coastal states would put a bounty on these, I'd bet they would get picked up and repurposed.  The companies don't want them back.  There's no cost center in their books for that.

I can pad and pack a dozen surf reels in one...sans barnacles.  Not pretty, but sturdy and practical.

I received my Avet large reel case and it's HUGE! The quality is great and will definitely hold my usual 6 reels plus lots of extra gear..... now to personalize it so distinguishable from everyone else's!
