Found yesterday at the swap meet.
Perrine Mfg. Co. No. 30 automatic
Fly fishing reel. Patent applied
for in late 20's , awarded '31
(Herbert Hoover was President ! ).I
have found advertising dated to
1953. It appears that the No. 50
was the flagship. Perrine also
Sold fly carrying boxes.

I made one mistake ... thought I'd
take the reel apart to clean
"No tools needed"... they don't
mention "M.I.T. degree needed".
2 hours later all is well. ( look
at the Patent diagram and you'll
note the challenge ).

Quality parts, build , material
and engineering . Still works as
originally designed. I will proudly
display in the man cave. I gave
$2.

Well done, Charles! More than one person has been strangled when the spring on those, and Shakespeare autos, has decided it no longer wanted to live in that cavity.  ;D
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

Nice. Didn't know Perrine products came from Minneapolis. Had onea their aluminum fly boxes, very well made. Don't sound like like a thing, until your stupid plastic boxes crack or the hinges break.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Tommy ... I got to be honest , when
I flipped the lid off , and the
Carbon steel spring tasted freedom
my heart sunk and I started speaking
in tongues. Mr. Perrine had some skills to invent this reel mechanism . Really impressive design .

GFish... I agree those aluminum fly by boxes are cool. I kind of got away from them when I started using sheepskin / fleece pads .... Probably should go back to aluminum.
