Good morning. Unable to get spool centered up.  It's easy to see that the spool protrudes more from the left side than it does the right side.  I have zero shims in the left spool end cap, and 3 shims in the right spool end cap.   Installed a new clip for the spool shaft.  I can't put in an unlimited number of shim, the end cap would be unable to grasp the rubber washer that keeps the cap from falling off.  I'm puzzled.  Is there any machining I can do to the shaft?  The shaft bushing?  Any suggs appreciated, thanks.  Only thing I can think of is that the spool shaft is not the correct shaft, as the reel has been repaired by a couple of different people.

I have run into that. It is possible you have some other iteration of shaft; as you know, there have been a bajillion made as well as in Sweden vs. Asia if someone has swapped shafts.

I was afraid to even ask that. The mag elite would have a spool shaft (length) different from any other 6500.

OP: with the knob on the handle side tightened down all the way, the spool is still too close to the handle side?

You've started a few threads about this issue (not unreasonable given you haven't gotten the answer you want yet) but I don't believe any of these threads had any pics. Can that change? Sometimes seeing the issue helps.

I will measure some this weekend. All my Abu parts are at the Beer Can in the Woods, and I need to build the CT plates out that Nick sent.

*** Yes, that is precisely the problem. Thanks for taking a look at my question.

Jason:  That is what is going on.  Right side ( handle ) knob turned in all the way, and spool still favors shifting to the right.

I did have a couple of 6500 width reels at home, so I popped out the shafts:

Stock 6500C3CT: 85.10 mm (Swedish)
Abu Rocket shaft: 85.08 mm (Swedish)
Rocket Reel Company FS2 for reference: 75.4 mm, as it has an extended shaft well in the tailplate to serve as built in speed bullet. It spins an Abu CT spool.

I will try to measure a few more this weekend- stock 6500C3 (Swedish) and some other stock 6500XX from Asia.

Thor: Problem is gone.  Seems logical to assume the spool end caps are the same, left and right.  My mistake.I measured the depth of the two caps.  I should have picked up on it before since there are two different part numbers for left and right side caps.  The left (non-handle) side cap is longer, and is long enough to capture that rubber washer that retains the cap.  Pretty much centered up now.  Thanks.

Sometimes you get lucky, and that's a good piece of intel for the community!

Just dopey on my part not to see the two different part nos.

If you wanna feel better just read some of my threads on some of the very obvious and basic things I learned the hard way because I didn't pay enough attention.

It's half the fun.

Did those ceramics ever arrive?

Yeah, the ceramics arrived in two weeks.  Very nicely packaged.  Good company.  I'll put them in soon.  That's an unbelievably good deal for ceramics. Thanks for pointing that out.
