Recently picked up a Jigmaster 505HS and decided to disassemble and clean it today. As I was drying and wiping the left side sideplate, a small brass spacer/washer hit the floor. I wasn't even sitting at my workbench. A few minutes before, I had the sideplate over a utility sink as I cleaned it with an old toothbrush. I never saw the spacer. I've had a few Jiggy's apart before, and I don't recall seeing this spacer, but I know the 505HS has bearing vs bushings. Is this spacer a part of a Jigmaster 505HS, or just a sign I need to keep my workspace a little cleaner and more organized? Thanks in advance...

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Thanks Lee. It was probably resting on my fat belly or arse. Found a small monarch caterpillar crawling up my leg yesterday. I obviously need to move more    :P

Could it be a shim that is supposed to be in the bearing cup under the bearing ?

A - Keep the workspace more organized.  B - I'm guessing somebody was "into" that reel before you got to it?  Always makes the task fun....-john

it is possible that it might be a bearing shim.

Well it's all back together: everything seems tight and amazing free spool. I like it so much I'm thinking of adding a SS gear sleeve and putting it in the snapper/grouper arsenal. Eyeballing the shim, it seems a little bit too big for the bearing?

Hey Mac, great reel, just be cognizant that the way it gets to be high speed is with bigger main with smaller teeth, if you are planning on grouper-winching, which normally would dictate a power handle vs. the stock 24-66.

Yeah John the handle is quite small for grouper winching. I have a few handles that I picked up from Bryan's stash that should fit the bill. Just ordered a stainless gear sleeve from Mystic. Would like a stainless dog too, but can't seem to find one. Still can't believe the free spool on this reel!

I have a butt load of Jiggy's and a 4/5 HS in various states from stock to not stock. I think they were a great upgrade for kingfishing in the Southeast prior to the advent of 6:1 plastic reels like 545GS (that's what I switched to and still use), and Speedmaster's. Just be careful if you SS sleeve, carbon drag stack, power handle onna groupa. The weak link then becomes the gears, especially if you've added one-piece frame. IMO, that is a GREAT reel to free line a live bait out the back in a rod holder while you bottom bounce with a 113H.

John I agree. I think it's better suited for a trolling reel for kings. Appreciate your insight.
