i will be in the Los Angeles area next month and wondering if you guys could help me in choosing a good 3/4 day boat. one in mind is the Malihini out of H&M landing. any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Are you going to be in the L.A. area or San Diego area?   If it's L.A. I would say the PURSUIT out of 22nd Street in San Pedro.   If it's San Diego, I would go on the SAN DIEGO out of Seaforth Landing.

There's the Enterprise out of Long Beach Marina

Or the Victory out of Pierpoint landing.

I've ridden both boats, both have good crews,  but all they are chasing is rockfish right now.  If you want to chase yellow tail and dorado you'll have to try Davies Locker or Dana Warf down behind the Orange Curtain.

When are you going, I've got some time, I mite join you.  Always have room for another fishing budy.

I would guess the exotics would be pretty much gone by then.  So it would most likely be rockfishing.  3/0 to 6/0 hooks and 6 oz to one pound sinkers...  pretty strait forward.

That time of youe I would take a 3/4 out of as far South as possible. I always have fun on the Mexico trips out of Point Loma.

Mel,

Right now in the 3/4 day range it is hit or mis (more miss)on the small/firecracker yellows out of San Diego. If you have the time you may want to think about a 1.5 day trip. There is a much better shot at nicer sized BFT and yellows out of SD. Also not sure if they will still be running at the time but Davey's Locker, Newprort Beach, is doing 1.5 day trips to the Cortez Bank, around 100 miles due west of port. The counts are pretty good and two weeks ago we nailed the fish, I had 4 yellows from 30-40lbs and two smaller BFT in the 20-25 lb range. I stopped fishing at 2:00pm because I had all the fish I wanted but the boat kept fishing until 7:00pm. I'm going to head out Sunday night, fish Monday and return Tuesday morning again going to the Cortez on a 1.5 day trip. Keep a eye out on the So Cal fish reports to see whats going on or you can PM me and I will give you the low down on whats happening locally.

Glad to hear you stepped up to a day and a half - big difference.   I would definitely make reservations ahead of time.   Have fun on your trip!

Hey Mel:  I see you live in Brazil.  Have you ever fished the Amazon River?  Manaus is on my bucket list.  Dominick

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Whoa!  That's a little rich for my blood.  Why would you have to take a 5 day trip?  I read somewhere during my research that it costs under $100.00 to get a guided trip for piranha from Manaus.  Yep the Amazon Basin does sound like an adventure.  Dominick

Mel Thanks for the Link.  I'm sending a PM for some questions about the link.  I don't want to bore the AT members.  Dominick
