Alan, what do you think of the idea of taking a Penn Inter 50 and making it
a narrow spool reel ? I have a buddy in a machine shop. I don't need 750 yds
of line here on the east coast. i have an old one that i have been kicking
around for a long time.

Don't know if it fishes better, but one thing to remember .... narrow reels =COOL !

That would be pretty cool! New spool, new frame, new shaft, new sleeve.

Where are you locate on the East coast, and what kind of fish will you be targeting?

Alan, I have two 20Ts want something with a bigger drag disk, stronger gears,
just plain beefier. besides i like the challenge. i have it almost thought out.
want about 450 to 500yds of 110 to 130 lb braid

A 50 "narrow Special" would still be a heavy reel... very cool , but very heavy. You mentioned weight was an issue in the other post. How about a used 665 2 speed Accurate?
Coolness factor=high
Comparative weight= very light for its performance
Drag Capability= pull you overboard
Spool capacity=just right, I think about 400yds 130 hollow + topshot
Cost=an arm and a leg but less than what a new one costs....

But if you make a 50 Narrow Special, make 2, I'll buy one.
;D

yeah it would be a little on the heavy side. a 50 is around 65 oz cut down
maybe around 55+. I solved the weight holding problem with a Blue water
shoulder harness. it hooks to any reel by use of the lugs with snap clamps and
i have a lugless adapter also. this would be the heavyest reel i would use anyway
when i need a stouter reel.
