OK so now I have serviced a 2spd. Rebuilt a 112H & now it's time to do a little more. I recently sold a bunch of old tackle, rods & reels to upgrade and finance my first long range trip. One of the reels I sold just happened to be my oldest sons favorite reel. I did replace it with a brand new Avet LX 4.6:1 and took him fishing so he could try it out. His response was I love the new Seeker rods and Avet reels but I like my old star drag better :( :-\ >:( ... So the idea pops into my head to sell the LX which I did and build him a star drag for his birthday  ;D ;D ;D Thanks to Mel I have found the reel & I acquired an Accurate frame and spool.
I need SS gear sleeve and AR dog...Penn 349 handle...Maybe 4:1 gears?  & drag set.

The plates are clean and waiting parts:

I love him but there is a limit  ;D ;D ;D

Alan has a crank arm that is like the 349 but stainless. I absolutely love them. You also then get to choose the handle.

Funny, I am looking to do a 112H but with a Tiburon frame. I am also going to do a Jigmaster with the Tiburon frame and add the Stainless gears. They seem like nice upgrades for a decent price. I also like my Star drags. I want something new but I really like my reels. Since they work well, I really can't justify buying new higher priced reels.

Are accurate frames and plates still available for these Penn reels?

used ones yes. i saw some on eBay...

Used ones are occasionally available on eBay and elsewhere; new ones --especially plates-- are very rare, and becoming more so by the day.  :-\

Tiburons, happily, are still in good supply.   :)

If you'll spool it with multifilament, I suggest the narrow kit. If not you know what...:);D

Tim, thats very nice of you to customize a reel for your son. I would suggest a set of Pro Challenger gears available from Black Pearl on this site. They are the best gears you can buy IMHO. You will also need a stainless steel yoke.  Bob

Tiburon only make the frames and spools no side plates correct?

correct you are! if my memory serves me right, i think i have seen some reels with a mixture of Accurate Tiburon and JVariance parts.

innards first, then the handle, then decide on a frame and spool.

Beautiful job you did on those two Jvariance's you did for me Alan, and I love the giant handles, you were so right about those.
