Fishing the Pastime Princess today in New Smyrna Beach, Fl and the mangos were a little hungry today. At least 5 fat ones were hungry. Got 4 up in the water with my spinning reel and one on the bottom with my old reliable 540-3.2.

Dwight, you're officially "The Mangos King"...good job! ;)
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Mangos are tricky to catch and I have been tweaking my style for a lot of years. Those feeding videos that were posted a while back are just how they eat. Set the hook when they first bite and you have nothing. Takes lots of patience the catch mangos on a regular basis.

I missed the feeding videos (as I miss some of my hookups, too!). Were they posted here?

Erik Powell posted them a while back. You should be able to find them here on google some. Mangos play with the bait like killer whales play with a sea lion before they kill it.

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Scroll down to the 4th one. That video is the closest to the wild habits of a mangrove snapper. Anyone wanting to be successful at catching mangroves should study that video.

Yep! Mango master indeed.  :)  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Another mango tip. There are times when the bottom bite is dead as yesterday. Couldn't buy a bite on the bottom with light leader and prime bait. Flat lining to catch them up in the water is another option for your tool box. There is usually two strikes. The first pick up and run is when he grabs the bait and runs from his buddies. Then he stops to chew and maneuver in his mouth and run again. The second run is when you put the reel in gear and set hook. Setting the hook on the first run will rarely catch one.

We chum a lot so I like to also use a small bait on a weighted hook and toss it out with a spinning reel and let the bait fall into the mangos near the surface rather than use a conventional reel and feed line out. I got 3 fat mangos yesterday with the spinner and small baits. If I had stuck to my guns on the bottom I would have nothing.

There are times when none of your tools will work. Enjoy the scenery on those days. ;D
