We've gotten snow on the peaks lately...so our turn for old man winter to show up. Knocks my target species fishing ( Carp ) way back as they go into "snooze" mode for a few months. Plus I don't call "cutting holes in ice and staring down into it"  fishing.  I can walk out to my freezer and get a fillet or chunk of halibut anytime.

Hopefully get out labour weekend, depending on the weather gods. Don't get Porae down here, my brother has caught them up Whakatane way. Might do some freshwater fishing in the Rangitikei this weekend, will be the first of the season if I do.

Hi Alan,
Porae is a type of fish, Whakatane is a town, the Rangitikei is short for the Rangitikei river. Which has both brown and rainbow trout that fight like marlin. Trout season opens on October 1st every year. My brother is one of my three other siblings.
