I didn't want to post or comment on anything UNTIL I had a fish report with pics. Finally got out to the canyons on a Friday to Saturday overnighter. We went 4 for 6 on 60# and 70# YFT's and a couple of 40# to 50# long fins. All in all a pretty good pull. I was able to pull on 6 fish and had the hook drop out on two fish just outta gaff distance. Here are a couple for preview and I hope to have the time to write up a proper report with more pictures to follow.

That's me on the left and my friend Scott on the right. HIS FIRST TUNA!! Also won the pool. Way to go!

Our catch before being loined.

A pretty good trip. Total of 18 fish, mostly long fins. My buddy also had a pup sword of about 40# which was released to grow up. There were a couple mahi to about 15# and a mako of about 120# actually made it to the gaff on 80# floro. Good thing for circle hooks. I will post more when I get a moment.

Btw, all the fish caught on Penn 6/0's and 4/0's with the works. They all worked flawlessly.

:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Great trip Bob!  What boat?
Just a jig-a-lo

Bob, that was Bobby Bogans gambler. First trip out on any boat in three years, due to family illnesses.  We were able to get out between gale force winds. Just goes to show that tuna fishing is like ridin a bike. At one point the LFT's were visible in the slick but very line shy. I had to drop down to a 30# floro just to get bit.

Nice Bob, I would love to share that boat one day, how many guys? Great repost Bob, I'm glad you got out. Thanks for sharing. Did that 6/0 have any of my fingerprints ? ;D
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Yeah Sal, the side cover you did the grinding on. This trip had 22 on it. To be honest my buddy and I were the only ones actively fishing from first whistle to the three blows to go home. Started fishing by jigging at about 9:00PM on Friday night and didn't leave the rail until 12:00 PM on Saturday. We caught squid in plentiful amounts to have everyone fish them. I was jigging the three dogged 113TNK narrow with 100# diawa metered braid for the first hour! until the anchor came tight and we could determine what the drift was like. No love on the jig stick( BP's acid wrap pro challenger rod ) it cast nice! Would have loved to get one on that setup just for the report on it. Then as soon as someone hooks up with bait it's 8 oz sinkers on 60# floro leader on the 6/0 teamed up with a gator glass 7 1/2 foot cod jigging rod. These are a party boat special. Great backbone and log enough to stay clear of most tangles and props. This was a bit overkill for these size fish, but we NEEDED to bring the meat.

BTW, my buddy was using that 6/0 and was hooked to a fish of the XL size. Smoked 200 yds in a heart beat. Maybe a bigeye, don't know. Hook pulled 15 min into the fight. Point being...this had the hex gear set in it and the only limitation was the 60# Momoi it was spooled with.

Happy that you finally got out. I read the report of the trip. BTW the Doris Mae is the NEW Voyager.

Mike
I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

BMITCH

Didn't know that Mike. Trying to get one more shot at these fish before we lose the water. Probably on the voyager. We will see.
