I know some here fish freshwater, but I don't very often, and this post is geared more to those that like bass fishing. I grew up as a very young child having a few chances fishing bass at Iterlachen, Florida. I have seen many nice bass pulled out of the lake my great grandmother lived on there and I pulled on my share also.

Black/Largemouth bass are great fun and if your lucky enough to get a 10 plus lb'er through the weeds, tree stupms, gators, huge snapping turtles and alike you felt like a king, at least for that day.

As I grew older and found the saltwater I loved getting that feeling again. The calico bass lb for lb will kick a blackbass'es rear end and I have caught 100's if not thousands, most live to find me hunting them again because I respect that fish so much.

Later in life I have been very lucky to find a Grouper that puts the Calico bass to shame with its hard fighting, skill at finding structure to bust you off and just mean attitude. These fish are the Spotted Cabrilla that live in much of the Sea of Cortez.

Here is one I caught off a point that went around 8 lbs and took me into every rock, weed line and anything else it could find wearing down my 20 lb test to it's limits.

I know it is hard to tell the fishes size here, but here it is next to my foot and I wear a size 11 shoe.

Ok, back to king for the day. I took a good friends grandson out the next day that hardly ever fishes and took him to one of my honey holes. On his first drop he hooks a nice fish.

Jimmy's Cabrilla went around 17 lbs, maybe even 20, and was one heck of a nice fish.

Sometime it is great when a young prince de throngs the king.  :)

Very nice SoCal, looking at that young man's smile, he's hooked for life...thanks for sharing.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Thanks for the post. Interlachen, FL brings back a lot of good memories. I lived in Palatka in the 70s and really got my share of big large mouths from the barge canal and reservoir and the St Johns.
