So, I was finally brave enough to open up my first reel. I followed the JM PE5N reel tutorial and the JM PE4 tutorial; they were exactly the same and I really owe a lot to those members that took the time to make a tutorial. Thank you!

Disclaimer: I have never serviced any reel before so I now I have a couple of questions...hopefully they aren't too stupid.

When I unscrewed the four side plate screws I noticed one of the side plate screws was shorter.
Posted picture of four screws on white paper (first pic.).

Is this a defect? If not which hole do I place the screw back in? I took a picture of the reel sideplate with the screws removed. Not sure which one the short screw belongs in. Perhaps a user eiwht experience with Maxel Sealion reels could help please Smiley (second picture) https://www.dropbox.com/sc/5c1epklhtbvshas/AABFZcU3UolnZGTeQT5G8Cc2a

Ok I further opened up the reel. When I took of drag cam cover I noticed it was kind of dry (no grease)underneath it.   Do I need to add grease to it. What type of grease or substance? (third pic)

Next, took apart spool from handle portion. Do the gears  and everything look well greased enough? If not what substance should I add to it?  Fourth pic. and Fifth Pic https://www.dropbox.com/sc/ddrnf2uv4nwz810/AAD3gBnGKONLlu1bmi_sSUrja

Last I looked at the drag.  The drag seemed pretty dry. Should I add grease to it? If so what type? Sixth Picture https://www.dropbox.com/sc/laebtyxfk1bsngl/AADbvMwxewWXx4RovaF5FLo7a

Is there anything else I should check or add grease too?

Also, I have some CorrisonX and Penn Rod and Reel cleaner. Where do I spray this stuff?

Wwen,

The OSL09 is a single speed, right?

If that is the case you might have the opportunity to use ARB's AND dogs at the same time.

Note: I don not have a maxel so I'm not sure. I do have an M&W Ocean star 615 with double ARB's. I consider to add the dogs to this reel to have both the strength of the dogs and the zero backlplay of the ARB's. I've opened up the reel and the studs for the dogs are there. Just need the dogs, screws and springs.

An M&W is not a maxel, maybe. It might be possible though that M&W is manufacturing both maxel and JM but I'm not sure and I did not visit their factory or anything like it. There is a certain similarity though

I have some pictures of the opened M&W ocean star 615. If you want I can check whether I can find them and post them. It is a smaller reel than the OSL09 I think.
