greasing drags

Knowing this will likely generate many groans, I have to ask the question: before I got illuminated by this site, I put Penn grease on some HT-100's during rebuilds on the theory that it had to be better than the baked leather that was in here berfore right? Will this cause any serious issue? Bear in mind this was on a couple of  155 / 160's and 209's that will most likely never see a fish  over 15 pounds and won't see salt water again, during my ownership any way (being the back up's to the back ups to the back'ups to the back'ups for that application). That said, they are smooth with 20 lb mono and I like to take them for live baiting for freshwater stripers on occasion.

Penn uses their grease to lube drag washers in their latest generation of reels. It's a high temp lithium grease with marine additives. It will be just fine on those reels.

Getting ready to rebuild the drag on my '1973' Penn Peer 209MF.
I had the same question and did a search, came to this thread.

Going to replace the tension spring and washer under the main gear at the same time. All parts from www.mysticparts.com.

First time doing this any other threads to suggest?

You will be fine with the spring washer from Penn.

On the under gear washer --  3 ways to go...

Regular fiber washer from Penn --

Delrin washer --

Or, another CF -- just like the drags -- lightly greased with Cal's drag grease.

Either of the last two will improve your reels performance and smoothness drastically.
