That's great post some pictures of what you catch if you can. I was at the Highlands over the weekend , I don't remember the Blues being around so early and big ones in the #14 #16 range. Very hard to get anything past them to get to the bottom. I couldn't even get a ling on the boat without it being bitten in half. Its too bad the large blues taste like crap but they are fun to catch.

Yes Blues are fun to catch for a start to the season but that gets old real soon. They say if you get most of the dark fatty meat off they aren't bad. If we catch any I may just keep one and give it a try. I forgot to mention that, when I got my visitors pass to go finish my paper work at a building on post, I had to get checked at the gate. That meant get out of the vehicle open all of the interior storage areas, open the trunk, open the hood, open all of the doors , stand away from the vehicle. They check underneath with mirrors. I'm glad I didn't have to go threw a complete body search. My wife was with me but she had to stay at the visitors area until I returned. Things are very secure there now,no nonsense, and since I live 10 minutes from the main post in Colts Neck I'm glad, because a screw-up there can be very bad.

By the way I never thanked you for telling me about this in the first place. Thank You Doug! If you ever want to go out with us on the pier please let me know, the only thing you have to do is get the background check and then you will be allowed out with me at any time as my guest. Ill PM you with my #

Thanks for the offer I'm good for now but I'll keep it in mind. Glad it worked out for you . What gear are you planning on using? I think you are best off fishing incoming or high tide. Your challenge will be casting distance and then dead cranking anything you catch up to the pier

Ive fished the pier before, and I have a gaff to handle the fish, no horsing fish over the rail. As far as casting goes that isn't a problem either I can get plenty of distance, but you really don't have to go that far out there anyway...same as being on a boat, the fish are right there most of the time. Fluke are straight down hanging around the piles and anything up to 5 or 6 pounds can be cranked up anyway. No cameras on the pier. Ill have to take pictures at home.
