Hi Folks,
First time on here so bear with me please.
I have a Shimano TLD 15, The problem i have is the reel is fine in free spool but once the drag is preset and drag is engaged the handle starts to bind.
It becomes harder to wind as more drag is applied!
On pulling the reel down, I found the bearing in the side plate , handle side, is seized.
Having never removed this bearing before can some one advise me on how to get it out?
I believe this is the older style sealed bearing as opposed the the open bearings now used by Shimano.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Thank you Alan,
I had already viewed that post. Unfortunatly the bearing in question is jammed solid!
I shall keep trying and adapt a tool to assist with its removal. (Bigger Hammer maybe ? lol)

Thanks for the assist.

Folks,
I came on this site to maybe learn something. I have been fishing a long time!
I have worked in the charter industry for awhile and always taken pleasure in be able to pass on a bit of what I've learned to those either new to fishing or those new to my area or maybe new to a particular style of fishing.

I used to pass my gear to others for servicing, not that I didn't want to do it myself but family and work commitments didn't always allow for it. Now I have the time and inclination to mess with it myself.
I get enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment from fixing things myself, but also accept there are others who know a shitload more than I do!
And that is why I asked for some help here. All I wanted was a bit of direction in "how" to remove the bearing!
I appreciate Alan's input and direction to the link, however that didn't actually help with the original question as it doesn't show "how" to remove the bearing. My reason for asking for the help was simple, I haven't done it before and didn't want to damage anything by trying to force it if there was a simpler more effective way of doing it!

In the end I worked it out myself and removed the bearing for replacement.
I found it interesting that out of over 100 views of my post, Alan was the only person to respond!
Does that mean that no one else knew the answer to my question ? Or that because I was new here no one felt the need to offer assistance.

In the short time I've been on here I have found some interesting things and learned from them.
I'm not sure I will bother asking for help again though!
I also know some will just write me off as a whiner, and thats fine. I'm of an age now where I really don't care much what others think of me. But next time you see a newbie ask a question, maybe say hello and if your able, point them in the right direction.
You never know what you might be able to learn from them!

Regards,
Steve

I am glad you got it sorted out, and its good you shared your experience here..good or bad.  I was one of those that viewed the topic before Alan and did not respond.  Mostly because I too am a busy guy, and akso I knew servicing the pinion bearing was throughly covered in many other tutorials on the site.  I saw alan respond, and assumed you had likely found the information you were looking for, after having a chance to check out tue tutorials, this seemed even more likely when a link to a pertinant turorial was provided, and we hadn't heard anything back from you.  It is a multistep process, as I sm sure you found out, and I assumed if you had run into any trouble you would have asked a more specific question or provided an update.  It is hard to explain how to remove the pinion any better then is already provided, with puctures in several other tutorals.  There are many of us here that are happy to help, I for one just did not realize you were still in need of assistance.  There are many answers available here already, and if you have trouble understanding something or run into a specific problem, a more pointed question, and some background as to your experience level will nearly always get a quick response.  I am sorry you were unhappy with your experience, it is not typical.

Hope springs eternal
for the consumate fishermen.

Few months ago I still considered myself a newbie and this Guys were Awesome helping me out.
I felt a great vibes here That I came to stay.
Few things I learned are :
- All Guys have lives out side the site and are pretty busy guys.
- almost all normal repair question have been covered already, you can use the search Burton and found a case similar or identical to yours
- once the Boss himself showup on a thread means the problem is solved, no one add anything more.

Steve,

I'm sorry you didn't get the response you wanted in the time you thought you should get it but if you had a little patience people may have chimed in, everyone is not on your time table.

I don't come here every day and sometimes not every week. I do own a TLD 15 and with the service/upgrade for the 15's stickied on Alan's free site and with reading other posts on removing bearings most should be able to do so. Not to say I have not had trouble in other reels removing bearings and people that come here have helped me out.

Just give it a little time and most that come here will try to help out if what has not already been stated did not work for them.

I'm not trying to dump on you or call you out in any way just stating kinda how it works on this site.

Gentlemen,
I do appreciate the feedback and apologies if it sounded like I had a case of sour grapes!
As I said I'm new here and have now had more time to check out the site and work out what is where!
I did find some help full info which I missed first time around!
So, no hard feelings and I shall take a chill pill and start again!  :-\

Steve
