Howdy,

I have (2) Penn spools for a 140, 1 plastic, the other chrome/brass.
Both are marked 29-140.
The plastic spool is also labeled as a "Penn Synchronized Spool".
It works perfectly
When  the chrome spool is installed into the sideplates, the handle won't even turn
I measured the width and diameter of the spools, the length of the shaft and clicker gear, etc. and don't see any differences.
Any ideas?

Thanks

How about the diameter of the spool arbor?

Mark,

If you are referring to the hub of the clicker gear, they are actually different.
I attached a couple pics.

Hi,

We don't have any notes on this one.

Our photo of the black aluminum spool matches the thickness under the ratchet on the plastic spool.
The chrome is obviously different, but I don't think that would have the binding affect as it doesn't actually interact with anything.

The gear end of the shaft might...is the pinion gear seating on both shafts to the same way?

Try backing off on the left side bearing, and then readjusting the spool endplay.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

After much consternation, fiddling adjusting, etc. I finally got the thing to work.
I had to loosen most of the side plate screws to where they were nearly ready to fall off to get the chrome spool to turn freely.
End result: I'm now using that spool as a doorstop.

thanks for the advice
