A GUY ON FB IS Asking $40 for this reel, is it worth it. He says it is a 209. He lives close to me, so no shipping.

When I have a sale -- that is what I generally get for a 209 from that vintage -- that is completely serviced and ready to go.

Looks like it needs a complete service -- just from the one pic.

Might need a set of CFs and an under gear washer.

These also are commonly known for needing a new worm gear, pawl, and line guide.

If you take these things into consideration -- the decision is yours.

Personally, I would feel more comfortable in the $25 - $30 range -- knowing that some $$$ may need to be spent.  But it is a good reel model -- and those things are to be expected.

$40 is fine of it is in operable condition.

Just my opinion -- everyone is different.

thanks, I don't need it. I looked on ebay, saw they were pretty cheap.

Generally,

Any 209, 109, 9, 10, or 309 -- in used condition -- will need a worm, pawl, line guide, CFs & an UG washer -- just to bring it up to proper operation.

That is around $25 for parts, if no other issues.

These reels get treated rough either in the salt, or when trolling in fresh water with lead core and flashers.

Good reels -- but they have more moving parts that must be maintained -- just part of the game on these.

But then again, most everything on FB or CL is priced at double what they actually will realize.  And most folks know this, and offer accordingly -- and it is generally accepted.  So this reel may be bought for $20 -$25

I would offer him $25 I usually end up getting most things I am interested in on FB for a lot less or I pass on them.
