Penn Ocean Side Box Lable

   Does anyone know what color the label is on the 1934 Ocean Side box or the color of the stripe on the 1935 box?
Has anyone ever seen one?

Great Question. I think if we go through all the known colors of reels we have seen for 1934, at least we will know what color it is not. Then we can make a educated guess.

 We are talking about the Ocean Side take apart reel. Not the Ocean Side Regal.

 Oh crap, my bad . It was "ocean side" peaches I was referring to . There is no such thing as a penn ocean side box or a quick take apart long beach or a 60yd long beach reel, or a first gen 16/0, or 1st gen 9/0 with outer drag access, or 1957 full color "pocket" catalog.....they all fall into the "sasquatch" fairy tales category.........the kinda stuff you sit around the campfire and talk about.

Yes, I think you are correct. No one has ever seen this box. The real history of the Ocean Side model is very questionable. I shows up in weird configurations more so than in normal configurations. I do not think that this model had much production at all. I know there are more out there and I guess there may be a box or two around. We both know who owns two of these (both of them superior to mine); but, whether he will sell one of them is up to him and whoever can persuade him to part with one of them. I always thought the first gen 16/O would be the toughest Penn reel to find. The Ocean Side is up there with the 16/O in scarcity.

  There is nothing wrong with your reel, it was fished. I'll do some more digging and see if I can find out the color of the label.
    As you said the 16/0 & Ocean Side are very rare. What other production reels fall into that group? Not talking about odd ball colors, salesmen sample, display  or miss stamped reels, I mean the reel was a cataloged production reel and they are very scares.  Model K non star drag,  Baker Beach?

Now that you guys have finished kidding i would think the Oceanside labels would be closely following the Coronado box labels in design for the various year changes. The coloured stripe or background would most likely have been different .  Stating the obvious...but some mug had to.

In my humble opinion, the most rare of all Penn reels is a 1933 Sea King. It is illustrated, cataloged and requested; but, it may have never been produced, or maybe it was.

 Ah, the Sea King. You kind of forget about that one as it is only shown in the 1933 paper. A 150 yd. Sea Hawk with chrome rings. Can you imagine the INSANITY if a Sea King came up for auction? From my under standing, Penn ordered 1000 labels for them.
