The pic is off the web of some anglers sharing light conversation while trolling for a bite.

Just wondering what reels they're using. I'm not a big game angler so my only guess is perhaps not a Penn and something near a 12/0 to 14/0.??

Both have similar setups so only showing the closer,  clearer of the two.

Sorry for the low res blurries.

Is it a lever drag?

Is the doo-dad (spool release or drag lever just aft of the harness ring a FinNor identifier?

Or is it the handle shape?

Timeframe is late 50's early 60's.

Waters are south of FL, I think.

Thanks for the ID on the reel.

The anglers were Fidel and Che amicably discussing revolution while fishing. :D

BTW....I believe it was Fidel who was hot stick and caught a nice Marlin.

Interesting pic! Thanks for posting it Steve.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

you're welcome. here's a couple more. Fidel with another reel ...this one might be a Penn and one of him with a Marlin which won him the trophy fishing against E. Hemingway who failed to land any in the contest that day.

Looking at the fish pic shows Fidel wearing his flapped holster 1911A1. Later he carried a Browning HiPower.

wonder why he's wearing two watches?

The reel in that first picture may be a prewar Cox (just a guess).  It is not a Penn or Ocean City.  The sideplate are beefy, it has a handle grasp indicitiive of the 1930s, appears to be made of plated German silver, and the sideplate look beefy.  Might be tough to I'd from that photo though.

Yea, I saw that, too. At a guess ...one is local time....the other Moscow.  :D

I keep seeing a Cuban Liam Neeson in him.

It looks like the reel in the second photo is the same reel not enlarged.

Cool Steve...know your enemy, or are we friends now?  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.
