I really wish there was some way to re-chrome at home.. most of these chrome pieces makes a big impact on the reels appearance. Sending to re-chrome is expensive..

That little 9LW is a solid reel -- and it is good for another generation, if serviced annually.

On the chroming aspect -- don't worry about that.  This is a newer model 9 that has been well used -- and the chrome won't catch any more fish than one with some chrome pitting.  I would just fish it, and service it regularly.  No Prom Queen -- just a good, capable reel that you did well restoring -- and learned something in the process.

The things to be aware of on this reel would be --

The line guide, pawl, worm gear shaft, and line alignment as it relates to the line guide and line spool position -- make sure they coincide.

Keep the line guide mechanism lightly oiled with a few drops of a good oil like 321 or similar synthetic.

Assume you are going to insert the upper line guide into the slotted post guide by loosening and rotating the post into place for maximum free movement?

Also, that mono line appears to be 25 or 30 pound?  The reel would work better, and have less stress on the guide assembly by using a lighter line test such as 10 or 12 pound max.

We use Lead Core on these while trolling for Kokanee or Trout -- and the Lead Core is also tough on the guide system.

Thanks Fred on the tips.. The reel was handed to me and it's funny I myself questioned the line being too much #. You have good eyes and you being the second person I'm going to take the line out..

After I took the pictures I started testing the reel and noticed the line guide was loose.. Then a  light bulb hit and I finally noticed the purpose of the slotted post.. It's funny how I'm learning the process of working on reels.

Is corrosion X good for oiling the worm shaft? I'm guessing it should be oiled after every use? I usually rinse the reels after I use them that's why I ask?

Man ever since I did my TLD 25 with Alan's Upgrade kit and 5/0 handle, I got hooked. I'm very handy and in the past I did build my own car from scratch. So now having done this I got reeled in and I like it. Hopefully I can start servicing locally and utilizing this site as my main source for parts and reference. I just need to slowly make a list of those that service here as well and I believe I kind of got the parts people under control.

Lol I have between 15-20 9's I striper fish with using 20lb mono. Great little reels. If you like them you'll LOVE the Mag 10. (Got six).
