I've just fitted one of my reels with an aftermarket longer power handle.

There's no provision on it for the tiny little screw that 'locks' the handle nut.

I could potentially drill and tap a hole for it but the handle arm is carbon fibre and I would be a little bit worried about it delaminating when tapping a hole so close to the drive shaft hole.

Can I get away without having one? In my mind I can't see the movement of the normal use of the reel loosening it, but obviously most reel designers see it as a risk.

Maybe a dollop of Loctite, or some Teflon tape?

Just keep it tight -- you should be fine.

Always good to have a Penn wrench in your tackle box, anyway.
