Also, once you have connected with the clip you might want to finish removing it in a clear plastic bag as they have a tendency to go airborne when they eventually pop out.

Thanks for the help guys. I dropped in some 3-in-1 oil on that Shakespeare spool and will retry later. See the gap now but just can't get the rin/clip to move. Moved on to another spool from a Dam Quick 220n (see below) and had no problem removing the retaining ring -except for finding it after it shot across the room like you all warned me -should have used the plastic bag trick!

This drag stack is missing a felt? teflon? washer and the brass washer in the middle looks like it is from another part of the reel. Any sources for 220n drag washers? Also should I post this somewhere else? Thanks for the knowledge.

Hey All! Success with first reel--whole top of spool comes apart. I feel foolish for not figuring it out earlier but found a schematic online after letting it sit a few days. Thanks for the encouragement to keep trying.

That's awesome ! I do love the feeling of figuring something out, and workin' on reels.

My Daiwa Fuego 1000LT spinning reel is about 2 years old. The original butter smoothness now has a 'clacking' noise and feel when I hold the spool still and move the handle back and forth. Under normal fishing I can still feel this clacking as I turn the handle. Is this a worn gear or just a need for grease?

there is a nut on the oppersate side of the handle, is that working its way loose, keep it firm. good luck cheers Don.

This reel has a screw in handle. The play is coming from somewhere else.

Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Hey guys,
New to the forum here. My father from Missoula used this Orvis 50a when he was in school there to fish. A part inside the spool broke and was told it would be hard to find someone to fix it.
So, on behalf of my father i am reaching out to see if anyone is able to fix these reels/has parts for them. Does anyone know somebody who can fix this reel for my father?
Thank you for the taking the time to read this.

Welcome!

Being a little more specific as to which part/parts are needing repair would sure help, plus removing all that tangled line would be a good idea as it is no longer useful.

There are a couple of guys here that have the knowledge and ability to repair the Italian made Orvis reels.

glad you showed that. I don't do many spinners but was not aware of a spool coming apart like that. Thanks for the pic.
