Hello,

Thought I'd share this photo of Hilo Bay taken on a clear January morning. Mauna Loa to the left, and Mauna Kea to the right.
It's still early in the season so the papio and omilu (trevally) weren't around, but I did get to try out a new menpachI rod I built--Talon 14' 6"

You do good work Chad.
Great shot of the bay.
I won't see a view like that until May. :-\

Thank you Daron!

Never been to Kentucky, but I do have family in MI and on the East Coast.

So it may sound crazy, but I miss the seasons you folks have--especially the one that's orange, garnet, and gold..

Hey, where's the rain and clouds?  Everytime I was in Hilo it rained. I used to go every Thanksgiving for Hilo's junior bowling tournament.

Very nice menpachi rod. Classic rich color wrap. I need to build one or have one built on Oahu so when I'm home I can use it.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Thanks Bryan,

You need to get them to change the tourney dates to August, either that or hold it on the Kona side..;)

November is one of those months with a lot of rain, but good Oio fishing.

That rod is beautiful.  I love those colors.  Hopefully, I can learn how to match the fit finish and look of yours, Jon's, and Dwight's rods some day.

I bought a fly rod and reel on Monday, and stalked the flats yesterday, and today for a few hours each day.  I have been seeing some fish but no success to date.  My impression is the Oio are not particularly active this time of year.  Though I realize it may take me some time to get the game figured out as well.
Hope springs eternal
for the consumate fishermen.

Excellent pic Chad and your rod looks really slick .

Very nice Chad.  Water was 79F today John and it's been running 77 for weeks.  I love El Nino winters.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

I'll second that. Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Aloha,

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

Steve-
Yes, temperatures have been unseasonably warm on the Windward side for January--a record 88 degrees this past Tuesday with clear skies all the way into evening...We'll see how it bodes for this summer's fishing..El 'Nino years here seem to be hit or miss; either very good fishing or none at all.

John-
You are lucky as there are not many opportunities to sight-cast on the Big Island...Most of the Oio here are caught bait casting out into the sandy channels where they feed, not quite as spectacular as seeing them crush a fly..;)

Chad: Nice work and nice color. My dream is live in Hawaii.
