There have been quite a few tutorials about this reel on here and they were a huge help to me in redoing this ole' Bird; so this is more of a series of pictures showing the change from purchase to completion.  Yes, it will be picture heavy...and no you don't have to read it all  ;)

I purchased this reel for $69 plus a few bucks for shipping on eBay, I was stoked.  Upon getting it I realized I had my work cut out for me, but I welcomed the challenge...

For size comparison next to my SR-6...it was huge, haha.

So from here, I start to disassemble...with a few good and bad surprises along the way

Yikes!!!!!

Sweet!! Brass main!

All apart...

Now time for parts... Thanks to Scotts and Rollin @ D & R Enterprises!

Build time!

Crappy cell phone shot of the double dog set up...courtesy of Kona Jigging!

And all done...plus a little touch up paint :)

I'm tickled with the outcome, still enough patina to now it's been fished, but in a much better place now with actual working parts, haha.

Thanks for reading along  ;D

Nice man. Looks good with that knob upgrade. Is that one of those Fishincomfort knobs? I ordered one of those.

That Accurate spinning reel looks pretty interesting.

Nice 9500ss Dan! I bet you're itching for Adam to put more titanium AR kits for that reel. Also, did you spool that reel up with a machine because theres no way either of my 9500ss would lay braid that evenly.

Yeah, the handle was from him, $19.99 shipped with knob and handle, figured I'd give it a shot.  Feels great so far.

The line was spooled on a machine, I stopped at 500 yds of 50 lb due to that exact thought...it will never lay this evenly again, so I wanted to leave room for line lay expansion, as well as a top shot.

Thanks Daron :)  I appreciate your input prior to the build.

Nice Dan! I just bought a batch of those knobs; deciding where they'll go but one is going on one of the 9500's for sure.

Nice Reel , I made one out of 2 with some help from Bob [Cone] ended up with a nice one & some nice "spare parts."
I learned the hard way a lot of 9500ss reels have the dreaded red locktite in the frame that
breaks screws off during disassembley. Not sure if that was from the factory , I heated up the other frame before I took that one apart.

Great job Dan, a lot of tlc done there, great seeing that
bronze main gear, just one question what was the crosswind gear
bronze or white metal, if it is white metal i wonder can you get
a bronze one, the change is amazing you can feel it.

As said nice reel.

Almost miss this one  ??? Great job Dan!! The foam knob are IN these days, I installed a couple ones, one for my 650ss but have to take it off, the screw that holds it is hitting the bail every ten turns of the handle(not Alan C knob) even a low profile head screw will hit it and also installed one on my 501 black, very comfortable

What's your plan for the reel, like what kind of fishing?

Marc..
