Hi everybody. Long time no see! :)

Does anybody know if there is anyone here that makes parts in carbon fibre. "Clem" helped me back in the day making a new handle arm that I loved - But I can´t seem to reach him.

Do you guys know if smoothdrag sells sheets of CF drag washers?

Do you have any specific questions?

I believe smoothdrag does sell sheets of carbon fiber drag material, but I get it from user "Cfdrag" on eBay.

Just to be clear, the drag washer carbon fiber is significantly different than structural carbon fiber. You can't use one for the other.

My next project involve using carbon fiber on a 114 6/0, wanting to do this for a long time, got inspired by those handle arm you see on some reels, I used to make parts out of fiber glass, carbon will be a first. So I finally bought a kit on ebay to get started, should be fun

STRIPER LOU

McMaster Carr also sells structural Carbon fiber if you need it.

You can buy carbon fiber cloth anywhere they sell fiberglass.  Impregnate it with epoxy resin.  Carbon fiber is stiffer than fiberglass cloth so it helps to have a vacuum pump to pull the air out and hold everything in place while it sets up.  Other than that, it pretty much like working with fiberglass.  I've made a few boat parts, but nothing as intricate as a reel part.

The process in itself isnt difficult, but the small details make or break the final outcome of the parts.  Fiberglass experience is a plus, but dont count on it being an end-all.  Carbon fiber cloth isnt as forgiving as fiberglass, and doesnt give a visual reference when the cloth is fully wet out.  The idea is basically the same, but carbon fiber needs more attention.

Newell Nut

Structural carbon fiber sheets and tubing can be purchased at DragonPlate

Thank you for all the response. I do not think I will be making my own CF parts.. Anyone heard from Clem? Is he still active here nowadays? He made some beautiful parts!

@Newell nut: Does this site make parts on specification? The parts are not that advanced in its design...

Send me a PM with details on what you want.
