Good morning to you all.
My query is in regards to a Fin Nor Offshore 8500 spin reel. What happens is when the drag pressure are high and a fish or what ever takes line from the reel the spool actually starts to spin the drag knob thus releasing the setting you had it at. The reel is new and has only been used for a week fishing the Swains Reef here in Queensland, any ideas as to how and why this happens and what to do to fix this. Thanks for any info to help with this.

Hello,

I posted on this subject elsewhere but can't seem to find the thread.

You might want to check the order of the drag washers inside the spool, as the keyed washer needs to be at the top.

Another issue with these reels is that the underside of the drag knob may contact the spool, leading to both of them turning together as a unit.

This is due to the drag stack sitting too low in the spool, and/or a knob that also sits a bit too low.

Easy fix is to place another keyed metal washer on top of the stack, so as to space your drag knob slightly higher.

If your spool has the room, you might also try adding another soft washer at the bottom of the stack.

On my 4500/5500's the stock washers completely filled the spool up to the retaining ring, such that only a smaller-diameter keyed washer could be placed at the top.

I used the washer from a Penn 710, it was a perfect fit.

It could also be that your washers are not set in the correct order. Pull them out and check them.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.
