< I caught this here Pelaggica Istiophorus on My Beloved 50H (30# / Heavy mono bait leader) some years back . I've always had good stopping power ( and 300H) with Them ~  Wahoo, YT + YF . They've held up for me where I've seen Large Wahoo Literally Burn + blow-out the Sideplates on Jigmaster 500's .

I'll take "Solid Performance" over "Good Looks", any day !

Like the song says . . .

Tight Lines !

( I used to live with an 11 ~ a few years before I caught that Istiophorus ,  but it was Too Much Maintenance )

Going to pull my 50H out of the closet and tear it apart again.
Now that i've worked on a few more reels, it's time to look at free spool time.

Desert Guy

Well last week my son picked one of these up and we both used it on yellowfin up to about 20#'s. The reel performed flawlessly and cast well using 100gram butterfly jigs and we managed  quite a few fish.
Only mishap was during a cast the rod slipped from his grip and went for a ride down deep, to the end of the line that was on the reel. Just as it went in we snagged the line but with the reel in free spool it took about 20 minutes of pulling in the line hand over fist to retrieve the rod and reel.
So now we will get it broken down and cleaned which brings me to my question of whether to upgrade the drag washers and if so which ones to get?

I've got a sealine 50h that is missing the head of one of the four rivets that join the frame to the steel base/foot.  Is it worth worrying about, opinions appreciated.
I will try to add a picture or two.

Donnyboat

Not easy to fix, maybe cris cross a couple of cable tys through there, that should not interfear with the function of the reel, good luck cheers Don.

Thanks Don.  I had not thought about that sort of work around.

Gfish

Yeah. If you were to drill it out and rivet or screw it in, it would be a corrosion magnet.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

So how much is the reel weakened do you all think?  It's a daiwa sealine for God's sake, it's built like a frying pan.  The rivet head is gone but the neck(?) of the rivet is wedged inside the aluminum frame. Won't that offer some grip?

I know in my local hardware (NOT a Big Orange or Big Blue) back in the fastener section they have rivits.  I'm thinking a brass rivit and if you have a vice or an anvil - slam it home.  Sure, it's a dissimilar metal but hey, you"re maintenance is spot on you are part of this group! - john

Wilmar

Thanks,  I will consider that option.

Thanks all,  Chip

Yeah honestly a corrosion issue might table the reel in a few years. But lacking a rivet tables it now. And it's not exactly a reel with a big collector following where you don't wanna risk hurting the value with a non-factory part.

And besides that's what grease is for.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

They also make aluminum rivets. Even a pop rivet would probably work.
