Never thought I would have one of these goliaths in my collection.

A big thank you to Daron (Shark Hunter) who saw this for sale in the U.K. and pointed me in the right direction.

Soon as it arrived I stripped it:

All cleaned, had to replace the rings, stand and click button acquired from our Penn guy. Also needed a new handle but they are obsolete.

But Daron sent me this stunning handle, now my 14/0 is almost complete, just waiting for a couple of harness lugs from our Penn guy. Sorry about the photo being a bit blurred.

Once again I must thank Daron, for without his help, this wouldn't have happened.

Don't know why the photos have turned out small, just click on them to go to full size in photo bucket.

Great job! Check your upload settings on photobucket. Click on that gear symbol in the upload box...then you'll see size options.  8)

Daron, good job helping out, making sure Mike got what he needed.
It's a beaut Mike!
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Just paying it forward Sal. Mike is good people. ;)

Impressive reel and the camaraderie to make it happen! I understand the Specials have bearings and faster retrieve, but there's just something about those old black side plate models that always grabs my attention. Nice job all around!

Thank you all for your kind words, I never would have believed that I would have one of these big reels in my collection.

Here in the U.K. we don't get the variety of the reels you get on your side of the pond.

Thank you again Daron fof making this happen.

Mike.

Mike, I imagine that your beautiful vintage reel will be for display only, but just out of curiosity, are there any finned beasties over there that could give a 14/0 a real workout?  :)

I don't suffer from insanity... I enjoy every minute of it!  :D

You are right Aiala, display only, this is not going near water, especially with that beautiful handle from Daron.

Down south here in Cornwall there are no beasties to warrant the use of a 14/0.

A 6/0 or perhaps a 9/0 is all we need here, in fact for the sort of fishing I do, the Jigmaster that I narrowed, is my most used reel.

They may use a 14/0 for big skate up in Scotland but I am not sure.
