Anyone have a picture of  the peerless #9  dog and spring ( ie how they are assembled .

Thanks

esgeo

I don't have a photo, but I had to replace a spring once, ordered it from Scott's and it was just a thin sheet of copper colored metal that ends up becoming a bent piece (and thus a spring) from the action of the dog.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Eric is right --

Just a piece of copper that goes on the backside of the dog, then the other half goes between the metal stud and the sideplate cutout.

Here is a pic I hijacked showing how to just lift the bridge enough to get the spring in behind the dog.

I generally straighten my springs -- then bend them to an offset "L" shape as they are inserted in place.  This gives you a stronger and more positive dog click.

Let us know how you fare.

Best,

Best thing ever for this is a hemostat (tweezers with finger rings basically ) to insert spring while bridge is rotated slightly counterclockwise.

Yeah, and I keep my finger on top of the whole spring mechanism until I get the bridge back over top again - keeps the spring from flying!

Like so many of us here --

I just put the reel together with the dog fastened loosely with the bridge screw -- keep just enough finger pressure to barely lift the bridge, while still holding everything in place -- slip in the spring, bend and pop down the trailing leg of the spring between the stud and the cut-out inner plate cavity -- then just screw it snug -- checking as I go that the A/R dog is free and active.

Do a couple of thousand of these -- and it becomes easier -- but occasionally surprises pop up...

Best,
