Another question that popped up in my peabrain is about about Drag Ratings vs Available Lifting Power?
If the electric reel uses a motor to crank in line with a star drag that i,m imaginating is conventional after looking at some schematics,   Can the rated available lifting power be more than the drag rating???    Doesent the drag limit the lifting power if the motor strength and gear ratio is not the limiting factor????
Answers and opinions welcome here! ???  As most of there reels are made overseas maybe their language changes the english translation?
    Thanks y,all!

It's got to be semantics issues here.

Obviously the reel can not produce more 'lifting power' then the 'maximum drag'.

Of course the maximum drag will increase as:
The spool diameter decreases, the rod lengthens, and the rod angle (with respect to the water) increases...

and the other things we are all aware off: greater diameter working drag, greater number of surfaces, greater surface area, drag material, pressure applied to drag materials

Likewise power will increase with:
Lower gear ratio, larger diameter drive gear, larger spool diameter, more powerful drive motor.

I am not sure what the manufacturers here are using to define their measured 'lifting power' numbers here?  But as with most things of this nature, direct comparisons based on manufacturer specs may prove problematic.

For power reels, I think I would look for larger reels, larger, drive motor, larger drive gear, lower gear ratio, stronger drive train *i.e. helical cut, SS, direct drive Co Stanton mesh gears.

The lower of the 2 will be the reels capacity.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

With the Daiwa Tanacom 1000 my son had to crank to get a big Warsaw Grouper to the surface.

I have replaced 2 main shafts on these reels for others. I guess the motor on these particular reels can only do so much.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree the larger reels may have more power but if the available drag is way less thats the limiting factor?!!!!!!!!
Horsepower ratings can be enlarged to help prospecting buyers?   No person likes being fooled, nor disappointed.
This Forum is great,  as ive learned a lot. ???
