Hello -  I am retired from the U.S. Navy - 24-years  (1965 - 1989) - hence my user name USN_ED.

I've done some saltwater fishing in the past but not since moving to Northeast California (Alturas) from San Diego, CA 16-years ago.  I'm primarily a freshwater fisherman now BUT I like almost all things mechanical so I have several brands of fishing reels - PENN reels being among them.  I think, like many of you here, that I am cursed with the "buy it even if you don't need it" disease; however, when the wife becomes involved, I can justify a need for everything I buy.

Anyway, I came across this site and find it very interesting, helpful, and most of all friendly.  So, if y'all don't mind, this old mostly freshwater fisherman would like to join you.

Do you ever get down to Eagle Lake?

We scratched our September trip this year because the high water hit the cow turds and the algae bloom has ruined the fishing.  That's what they are telling us at least.

I'm in the Delta.  Glad you're here!
