Fortunately, that Grouper was already off the bottom chasing something. I love my Penn Spinners but it would have been a different outcome if that fish was hooked near the bottom. Great catch though.

Yup! that's usually the story, even when you have larger reels. I just serviced a loaded jigmaster for one of the members here and that's exactly what happened. If they don't want to come up, they won't.

The bottom line here is that a 750SS was able to bring that monster to the boat. I called it a 750SS because some might think the 850SS is a larger reel. The 850SS is a 750SS with a larger rotor and spool.

Even as much as I like catchin g the fish, When I fish with my Jigmaster for Halibuts I know I,m playing w fire!  I need nto fish with it more for a great fish story!   Maybe next year........ ???
