The major benefit of these reels is the price for replacement gears. I think the set (pinion and Main) are $15.  Not that you would ever need them because they are built strong. I bout a few replacement sets just in case but will likely not need them for my or Alan's reel.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

I was surf-casting a Squidder a few years back and a friend of mine gave me a Slosh (don't recall which number).  It's beautiful for distance casting!  Who needs magnets?  I can only imagine how much better it would be with one of those kits, and hope that someone ::) will do another run of them.  Seems like they would sell!

I don't think the upgraded reels would be better for casting as the main components are the same. Though the upgraded reel does sit closer to the rod do to the metal frames reel seat not needing to be as thick as the stock one. So I could see this as helping thumb the reel while casting but the freespool is about the same. So yes maybe better in the feeling while casting.

Here is a pic of my SL20SH compared with a Avet SX to give a size comparison.

I bought the earlier frame without rod clamp and clicker sideplate. I later upgraded the left side plate to the clicker version but the frame stayed the same without the rod clamp. Though I'm not 100% sure the the later SL20SH frames came with a clamp.

I payed $50 for the new frame plus Ca sales tax and later payed $20 plus tax for the side plate with the clicker. For me the extra 20 bucks for the clicker side plate which was a no brainer as that was not a option when I first bought the kit. Here is a better pic of the clicker side.

Diawa has the Black and Gold (BG's) reels in the SLOSH sizes which have a cast frame that are just as good if not better than the upgraded reels. The BG's have a ARB, nicer stock drags and a better stock handle than the SLOSH's IMO. I know this because I also own a BG20H also.
