Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Hi Alex Bloke, what reels do you have, are you intending to fish fresh or salt water, really good helpful people here, welcome from Sunny Western Australia, cheers Don.

Hi all, been lurking for a few weeks now. Thanks for sharing so much info here!

I'm in the SF Bay area, and fish pretty much all the different waters here. Salt water jigging is my favorite fishing method, and lingcod is my favorite catch.  I mostly fish from my kayak, but also happily cast from the pier/shore or my small aluminum v-hull Gregor.  I also love tinkering almost as much as I love fishing - old Penn reels seem like a good fit!

I recently acquired a number of vintage Penn reels.  Nothing rare or exotic, but mostly pretty clean and definitely worthy of fishing with.

I fish lefty... Old Penns are hard to find in left hand models. I may take a stab at converting one or two at some point. Currently looking for a Jigmaster or Squidder.

My collection so far consists of a handful of 209s, a 180, a 109, a 285 Del Mar, and an 85. Most of these reels are going to be gifts for friends and family, once I clean and service them, but some will remain in my collection. All but one are "backwards" for me, haha.

I'm looking forward to diving in and getting these reels out on the water!

Growley here, in New Orleans, newest new guy on the board. Got almost a shrimp basket full of old Penn conventionals, fixing them up about half as fast as I buy new ones. My favorite is the 140 Squidder but I somehow end up with more 209 than anything else, I think 8 or 9 at last count. Also have let's see... several n0.9 including one brand new Chinese one, a 309, a 109 knucklebuster, beachmasters, surfmasters, a jigmaster or two, and I don't know what all. Love Penn reels, especially vintage USA made ones, love taking them apart, cleaning them up, tinkering with magnets, and I will be making a couple of side plates for 209 or 309 so I can put REALLY BIG mag brakes with adjusty knobs, and eventually I will be making a reel, Can't rest until I make the perfect reel. If I live that long. Interested in model history and features, etc and this seemed to be the board for finding stuff out. Not a good distance caster but I love trying and trying with the old Penn casters, especially with wide aluminum spools and ball bearings but also enjoy milking all the performance I can out of the humble 209 winch. Who can resist a $10 reel that is in "good working order"? Wife gets mad when I buy more so I guess I am one of the chosen. I can't ask her how many pairs of shoes she has because actually I do have more reels than that.
