As steelhead_killer says "Feeling Narrow Minded"

Just finished a 113h narrow build. Parts list as followed:

Cortez new style plates
Tiburon Narrow Frame and Spool
BP stainless double dog bridge and sleeve
BP stainless gears 4:1
BP offset arm w/ EVA knob
Motive Fab Drag insert
Motive Fab large Stainless Star
MAXED OUT Shifter
Stainless jack and yoke from smoothdrag
KETA Lug Blanks

Build thoughts,
Reel went together like legos, no modifications or fine tuning required. Gears are smoother than the last set I got for my red 113h. Not sure if they were different production runs? EVA knob does not freely spin but does bind less than the last EVA knob I installed. So far I'm one for three on freely spinning EVA knobs. They feel the best as far as grip but I don't see buying any more because of how finicky they are to function properly. Will be going back to Tani handles and plan to try and wrap them with some sort of grippy tape, maybe some talon gun grip type tape in rubber. I'll need to experiment. The handle arm lock screw included with the arm is also extremely soft. The frame anodizing does not match the Cortez plates as you can see in the pictures. As far as I'm concerned, Cortezcustom parts are the best hotrod reel parts on the market. Everyone else should be matching their colors to his... Just saying!

Overall I'm happy with how it went together. I need to quite looking at these reels and start fishing them. I'm going to spool this 113 with 100lbs rainbow castking 8 strand line from amazon.

I would encourage others that have not pieced together a reel built from custom parts to try it out. Like I said it goes together like legos!

Thanks for looking!!!

Nicely done, and your correct, the CC plates are the absolute best!

By and chance did you get any Loctite into the EVA grip mechanism? That can be a potential problem. In addition we found during our testing that even the best bearing's can present problems and we ended up eliminating them and working up a tolerance between the shaft and tube to achieve the best results. Also, what is the screw diameter versus the hole in your handle?

A small amount of gel Loctite seems to be doing the best job. What I've been doing at the shop is an assembly with the gel, then take it apart, wipe any excess overrun off, and re-assemble without adding any additional Loctite. The tolerance's on these is on the tight side and it doesn't take much to get them out of whack.

Let us know how you make out and again, great job!

Lou,

This time I just immediately installed the EVA grip from the package, I dropped some reel x on the bearings dabbed a little grease where different metals touch like washer to arm and silver end cap threads. Other than that I left it alone. Didn't even pull it apart to thouroughly lubricate. The arm is the same brand as the EVA knob. The drilled opening for the knob/grip fits well not to loose, not to tight. The two end screws come with a hardened dab of blue colored loctite. I didn't dicker with anything, just oil/grease and assemble.

I'd say the EVA knobs/grips are a no go in my opinion, the bigger sized one at least. I've not run the smaller size yet but from the schimatics mo posted they apparently are almost exactly the same as far as parts and order of assembly. I admire the culture, kindness, and respect that this forum has. This is a direct reflection of the admin and mebers. If negative feedback toward a product is uncalled for please let me know I'll remove it. That being said I'd hate for anyone else to drop $60 on two of these grips.

Kind of wish I went with a black frame too, this blue does not match but whatever. It can't be too perfect right, I keep telling myself I have to fish this. Winch up some butt!

All good Trevor and just trying to help. Does it bind continuously or just in a specific spot when rotating. Is it possible you need a washer or spacer?

Alto Mare talked about these recently and said he liked the improvement in the newer knob. I'm not sure of the post but if you find it, check it out and see if there's anything that's possibly been overlooked. Sal's pretty though.

Alan C is a standup guy and its always best to contact the seller or supplier and give them a chance to first rectify your problem. That's probably the best way to handle it.

We're all here to help and we're all still learning!

Have a great day,  ..  Lou

Hi Trevor,

If you are not happy with the 50mm Eva knobs, you are welcome to return them back to me. I will give you a full refund. I have sold this 50mm Eva knob to a lot of members, I have not heard any complain about it until now.

Please return them back to me. I am cool with that.

Thanks,
Alan

Thanks for the kind words folks!
The anodize mis-match bothers me too! So much so that I won't even try a same color plate/frame build unless it's all my anodize.
Who knows, maybe we'll start building frames and spools someday.... ;)
