It was this summer when I saw for the first time a custom part on a Penn 4/0 I just had to have.   I got a chance to tighten the star on Sals Tank .    It was so comfortable and smooth feeling that an inquire was made as to where and how and that was that.   Later Sal offered to gift me one butt I was willing to buy one to try if it could be purchased.   The star was custom made by Adam Fourier of  Motive Fab located in this site.   Its another great product that is available tho a wait may be required.   A lot of great bolt on parts like this were never available a few years ago,

A special tanks to Sal and Dominick for the chance to try it breifly.  Its for another build that is a winter project.  Stainless steel is great for heavy duty use.  More on this project later.   Thanks to all people in the forum for sharing the information, ideas, references, and gifts.

That IS pretty slick !I can see where the wider surface on the "stars" would give a more comfortable grip,as well as allow more pressure. I would imagine, that in application, that would also mean a more "controlled" tightening, and that should allow "smoother", and more exact drag application.
There's nothing wrong with a few "F's" on your record....Food, Fun, Flowers, Fishing, Friends, and Fun....to name just a few !

I'm gonna need a few of these in my life.

I had contacted Adam a while ago and he said it was too time consuming to make & would be expensive. Come on Adam, we need some!

Everything that comes out is too expensive for these reels, and we still buy every part made.  ;D

In the star world this star is a "red Giant."  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Oh my. That's some nice work.

And I just cross threaded a crappy aluminum star....
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

I can wait, but where do I have to sign to take a number on the waiting line?

Maybe Adam will see this thread😀...
And, maybe Adam will come up with a price that makes it "worth it" for him to offer them up.....
He may be surprised if he puts up a "poll" how many people would commit to such an awesome product😀😀😀
I for one know it would look great on my next "bucket list" build...a "TANK"....oh yeah baby😀

Well now folks.  ;)  First we got to give Sal kudos for loaning his Tank to Dominick, ;D      then give me a chance to order one more before a big flood of orders scares him out of his tree stand? ???    Just joking of coarse!
This is a great product and is way more comfortable to twist around.   Kinda like having power steering.   You wont want to go back!!! :'(

Careful what you ask for ;)

Ive looked at doing these before, and the same thing applies now as then.  Until I have my own CNC mill or lathe, its not practical for me to make these.  The interrupted cut beats my lathe to hell machining these, so I have to baby it when cutting.  That means it takes a long time to cut.  Way more than I could charge for and still feel good about myself as a human being.  And I like that these are something special. I want them to be something special for the people who really define and further the spirit of ohana that makes this board such a great place.

Gary, Sal did not lend me the Tank.  He gave it to me as a gift.  I came up with the idea to lend the Tank to any AT member anywhere in the world that would like to try it out on big fish.  I pay the shipping and the only requirement of the borrower is to use it, report on the site with photos and pay the shipping to return it to me or to Sal for inspecting and servicing.  Right now the Tank is in Karachi, Pakistan being held hostage by the Pakistani customs.  Dominick

P.S. Adam we understand the work involved and the wear and tear on your equipment.  Thanks for responding.  Since this is your design perhaps you could price it out with a machine shop to rough out the piece and you do the finishing or vice versa they do the finishing.  Therefore, if you can establish a price and I will poll the members to see how many can be sold when finished.  What do you think?  Dominick

Adam,

I hope I didn't come off wrong!! I was only saying, "wow, that looks awesome".  I'm not a machinist, and dont pretend to know the time or work involved with the finished product.  All I saw was something that totally embodies my idea of a Tank!!!...A nice, custom work of art! Hopefully one day they will be available, until then we'll just keep hoping😀😀😀
All the best,
Brett

Adam, is it possible to have it cut as a round disc then do the taper cutting & then have the fingers laser cut? That way you wouldn't have the interrupted cutting for your lathe.
