I found this reel totally by accident and was both "intrigued" and "repulsed", at the same time . . . Draw you own conclusions !

Tight Lines !

This reminds me greatly of the Simpsons episode where Homer designs a car.

I have one in the Pe7 size. It's a beast of a jigging reel. Matched with a 5'2" jigging rod it's second nature when you jig with it. The crank of the handle and action of the is like a perfect gear set.

Mine is gunmetal in color and left hand retrieve. Just like using a spinning reel.

Don't forget there is the Accurate Mutant GT which is a similar concept... except the Accurate is just an overhead reel slung under the rod whereas the JM Underhead is specially built for the job.

Probably one of the better jigging reels money can buy, if you like overhead style drag but the balance of spin... and don't use the rail at all.

Keith lmk if you ever wanna sell that beast.  I wouldn't mind trying to jig up a 50class YFT with it.  Likely has one of the strongest levelwind designs available.

50lb tuna no problem.

On the tail plate is the normal click button. Also a Lock button. It completely locks the spool and takes all the stress off the gears. Its for breaking off bottom if you get stuck. You can still reel in line.

I'd give one a try in spite of my apprehension.

The Pe7 is $900. :o

And then, the "roar of the crickets" set in . . . LOL !

I like the concept. This would make spiral rods unnecessary as you'd get the same benefit - no torque to twist the rod during a fight.

Sounds like a great jigging reel idea: a spool that locks down. So if you snag up and lock it down, the spool will still reel in line, but won't turn backwards against the drag? I.e., it's a one-way lock?
I can see where you'ed need a level wind with a underhand conventional, as line management would be a hassel when you can't easily see it.

Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

You'd have all the downsides of a spinning reel since you're using a spinning rod.  No laying the rod on the rail to crank.  You can still use the rail with an Acid wrapped rod!

No line twist, or reel flex issues here though.

Why no reel flex?  It has the same style reel foot as a spinner.  It's a funky $900 pseudo spinner in a baitcaster format.  For that kind of money just get a Stella and call it good.
