Bayside marine in the Santa Cruz harbor is decent, not too far from Monterey. His daily fish reports are handy.
Do what you can with that you have where you are

Gfish

There used ta bea Dicks Sporting Goods on the main drag between Sand City and Downtown Monterey
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

If you are going to be coming down through Salinas, Turners recently opened a store there. Down in SoCal, Turners is all over the area. They usually have pretty good prices and a good idea what gear the local area uses.

I second the Bayside vote.
More like a working man's shop but all the good stuff that works locally.
The old man can be grouchy as all get out but he is a good egg.
Reports are accurate as Sheridan said.  Which direction are you going to Target?
And pm me your Addy, I have a box for you..........
There is nothing like lying flat on your back on the deck, alone except for the helmsman aft at the wheel, silence except for the lapping of the sea against the side of the ship. At that time you can be equal to Ulysses and brother to him.

So are you going to have time to fish at all when you get down here this weekend?

No time to fish.... It's a trip for my wife!

Alas! That's too bad. At least the weather onshore should be good for the two of you.

It is a small shop, decent prices on what they have is the "the Tackle Box" on 1012 N. Davis Rd. Salinas, CA 03907.  The two guys working the place are Roger and Will . They have both Live and Frozen Bait. A buddy of mine on Nor Call kayak Anglers is a regular there.
Bad day of fishing still beats a good day at work!
