Just filled my new PC 501 with 65lb power pro from a 300 yd spool. It wouldn't all fit so I have about 30-40 yds left I think. I've amassed a collection of spools with remnants on them over the years and the packrat in me can't seem to let them go. Other than a small amount of backing under the mono any other clever uses for it?  Seems a shame to chuck it but it's getting out of hand. Thanks

I have used braid offcuts for whipping on rod rings and as a serve on a splice.

Macrame? That what it seems to be used for a lot on party boats.

How about tying them all together & putting them all on one or two spools?  ;D ;D 10-30# on one spool & 40# & up on another spool.     Rudy

I was thinking of knitting doilies but i'm not that senile yet, any day now but not yet.
Wrapping a rod with it would be a new wrinkle

Let me know if you need to use CP on it. High vis yellow would look kind of cool for guide wraps.
Some days the supply of available curse words is insufficient to meet my demands.

I have red, white and moss green. Interesting concept,I might give it a try. It doesn't change color in water so it should be fine without CP. Cheaper than thread too.

I've tried wrapping guides with it but it doesn't work very well.  There is no stretch so it is difficult to get it as tight as nylon.

Mmm I'm the same, have a whole lot of offcut odds and sods from maybe 50-100yd long.

In very light braid it's useful for a variety of things like whipping splices but the heavy stuff... I use it for hanging picture frames and that's about it.

If braid is 50lb+ test I use a 5 foot segment of hollow core to spice em together to make 250-300 yds line for my rockfish reel :).  A good tip is to double up the solid braid line going inside the hollow when splicing so there's more meat for the weave of the hollow to bite on.  Cheapest good quality hollow braid in my opinion is Seaguar threadlock.

I don't buy filler spools anymore. 50 left over yards at the end of a 1500 or 3000 yard spool isn't a big deal. 50 yards left over on every 300 yard spool is a waste.

You could send the left over line to one of those line tester guys. There used to be a website by a guy named Paulus that had good line info but I think it's gone now.

Tiddlerbasher

Sadly Paulus doesn't support the website any more. The past info is still there though.

Where is the info? On another site? I tried going to the website and it gave me a server error. That was the best resource that I found regarding actual line specs.

Miss Mari does alot of backpacking and has ditched her 550 Paracord for braid.
In her quest for an ever lighter pack she will trim weight where ever she can.
I am sure she would love to get some 50 lb or higher leftover spools. I don't think she would care about length or color.
She uses it to put up a tarp or clothesline , guylines to stop her tent from blowing away etc.
I think she said it saves over 1 lb of weight to use braid over Paracord and this is some one who counts grams.....
There is nothing like lying flat on your back on the deck, alone except for the helmsman aft at the wheel, silence except for the lapping of the sea against the side of the ship. At that time you can be equal to Ulysses and brother to him.

Yep you're correct - the site has been taken down sometime in the last monthish - pity that :(
