Is there a wrong way to put the rod clamp bolts on?

I know it sounds stupid. I am referring to the ones through the reel seat that have one fourth of the head shaved off.

I always figured they are for spool clearance issues if they crop up so I put the shaved side toward the spool edge.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

The bolts with one flat side are used on narrow stands like a 501's, 349's,etc.  to clear the inside radius on some narrow stands & some graphite framed reels. It's not to clear the spool.        Rudy
