Micro-Lite Bearing ..

This bearing on the pinion looks sealed with brass covers..can they be removed?  Thanks, Joe.

Yes, Joe --

And they should be removed for both complete evacuation of old grease and crud -- but also for proper relubrication.

They cannot and do not need to be replaced.

My technique is to just poke a small hole through each brass cover with an angle pick and a couple of taps from a hammer -- then just pry up the shield and toss it in the trash.
