Captain Geoff Stone – Russell, New Zealand
(9 October 2022)

I'd like to take a moment to remember a good friend and my mentor, Captain Geoff Stone, who passed away on October 9th, 2022 in Russell, Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
I know most of you here probably didn't know him, but in New Zealand he was one of the real veterans of swordfish fishing — a true man of the sea.
Geoff ran the charter boat Major Tom II, and spent a lifetime chasing swordfish and sharing his knowledge with anyone lucky enough to fish with him.
He was part of many memorable catches — including a few record fish — and his calm, patient way of running a boat made every trip something special.
What made him stand out wasn't just skill; it was his attitude. He had that quiet respect for the ocean that only real captains have.
He taught me things I'll never forget — about fishing, but mostly about how to live it with patience, passion and humility.
I spent sleepless nights talking to him because of the time differences, he was a good friend... A precious teacher.
I like to picture him now at the helm, steady as ever, eyes on the horizon, just where he belonged.
Tight lines, Captain Geoff.
Thanks for everything. You won't be forgotten.

His swordfishing seminar. I still rewatch it after thousands of times. How I miss our late-night conversations.

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!
