Now actually reading it and about half way through. It's a great read. And its remarkable how earnestly the author seems to believe that the oceans are a truly inexhaustible supply of fish. 105 years later, we're not so sure.

I finished the call of the surf. Really entertaining read. And frankly it's probably the first book I've read cover to cover on my own volition in 5+ years (not counting the books I read to my children as I put them to bed).
It's an interesting perspective. Fishing for big fish back when a split bamboo rod was a recent modern improvement over the hardwood rods of the era, a "drag" was a piece of leather that goes between thumb and spool, 200' was a very fast cast, and anti-reverse wasnt even conceived of yet.

Makes a fella wanna hit the beach.
