First of 2023

Abu 5500C3 with ultracast spool soon to be a CT conversion.

Carbontex drags, ceramic bearings, spped bullet, and steel main gear are in transit. I'm gonna make a mag brake for it and call it a day.

Why yes it is. The real deal, not the version I made. Not mentioned above is the brake plate with ratchet AR that's already on my bench waiting to swap in. I wanna use this puppy at the beach so that backup AR is more for the sand than any fighting I'll be doing on 20# braid.

I got Rob's (Beachbob) parts leftover from his CT conversions (again!) to rebuild some old warriors, hopefully. An alcohol lamp in pursuit of bubble-free finish. A $httr's full hat for the below freezing boat rides. Some 12/0 wide gap circle hooks.  Oh yeah, these little 5'6" solid glass jigging rods called Liquidsticks- pretty green with green metallic wraps...for $16 bucks new in store. PRC all the way, but I don't know how they can be built and sell that cheaply even PRC-made. Just fine for hanging a slob of bait off boat in a holder on smaller Penn's.

If my wife made me sit across from a Psychiatrist and explain this, I would first ask him, "Got any of these?"

I am fortunate to have a wife who supports my tackle hobby.

One thing that helps tremendously in keeping the "spousal noise" near "0" —- I get a lot of packages of reels shipped in.  And she doesn't know if these are repairs/restorations for clients —- or reels I have purchased.

Plus, it helps to use some of the reel repair labor $$$ for things like major purchases, trips, RV & Trailer stuff, even a replacement wedding ring for the one she lost in the trash compactor after losing some weight a few years ago.

Of course, there needs to be periodic subtle reminders of where the source of the hobby income comes from —- reels, lest they forget.

Your thought about the question to the Psychiatrist reminds me of the time I needed a root canal.  My dentist sent me to a specialist.  While in the chair, the talk got around to the outdoors and fishing.  When I mentioned that I repair and service reels as a hobby —- he said that he had a 5 gallon bucket full of Penn 209's up at the cabin that were not working.  Over the years, he trolled at Courtright reservoir where his cabin was —- and the LW mechanisms kept breaking on the 209's —- every season.

He would just buy a couple of new 209's every year, and just toss the broken ones in the bucket.

He trolled lead-core with cowbells or Dave Davis flashers —- that put a lot of stress of the mechanisms.

Got a call from him a couple of weeks later to come on by the office and pick up the 5-gallon bucket of 209's.  There were (16) in there.  All had bent LW guides, busted nylon idler gears, gouged LW worms, or worn pawls.

He said if I would fix up (2) for him, I could keep the rest.  I fixed up (4) —- and returned the bucket —- and kept (12).

I support my wife's interests and endeavors —- and she supports mine.  Very fortunate.

Nice one, Fred!

I'm building an 11' Gutts Blank I had for 20 years; last one I had from stash when Shakes quit selling blanks. I'm practicing a few new ideas onnit before I build CTS 1305.

Oh, my wife isn't too hard on me.  She knows I need hobbies or I'll go dormant.  She's just practical in areas where I'm not.  Her view is that I can only use one reel at a given moment.  Such flawed logic from an intelligent person! ;)

Just got a new Tanacom 1200 just for getting to the bottom of things. No matter how deep they are I can get there.

I trade some cash and a Squidder that was collecting dust for these jigs.  Added to what I already have, just need a Salas 6X in Scrambed Egg and I'm set for irons come October.  Bill
It may not be very productive,
