Hello all. Ive been researching these reels lately and stumbled on this, "In 1974 there was a short run of Black jigmasters 500s" Does anyone have info on this? Thanks

Here is a new, USA, never fished 500 in the box with clamp kit, tool, grease, manuals, black.

I just spooled it with 30 lb mono, and installed a little larger crank for more leverage.

I would say every 500 made after 1974 had black side plates.  Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

I've seen some red ones with the newer stampings, but I don't know their dates.  Perhaps the reds I saw were the Lexan plates?  I read about these somewhere and seem to remember Lexan being used on the SM and SL models beginning in '78.  Not sure about the colors.  My interests seem to stop at about 1975 for some reason.
