Hey,all!

Dropping a new post regarding another of my stripdowns and resto's. Also included video.

This one is my Swiss made 1954 Benora Standard 2 speed spin reel. It is a medium freshwater reel, but weighs a hefty 13.7 oz., due to extra gears and push button internals and is fairly rare. It's serial number is very low, as all I have seen are 5 digit.

What makes this reel special is the ability to change gear ratio's with the push of a button set in the handle. It has two internal ring gears. One 2.75:1 ratio and the other 4.5:1 ratio.

Very smooth reel and much like the Hardy Altex, lots of tiny fragile parts and loose micro ball bearings set in cage. This one was a real bear to work on, more so than the Hardy, even though they require a special tool.
It has a tiny actuator rod in the handle, to activate gears. If handle is not disassembled in correct order, fragile parts broken...

First pictures are how I got her and last of pictures are after restoration.

This is a real joy of a reel to crappie fish with, too. It was rough when I got her, but you know me, gotta fix that!! lol
Anyways, enjoy!

Haha! Except it's already done! Time to strip again! Lol

Not much of a challenge since you've already done it once.  ;)  It probably needs another service.  ;D

Nice demo on the two speed aspect, Billy!  8)  That should help a lot of people understand how it actually works.  :)

Anytime! I love sharing my vintage reel videos because I know I would have really liked one when I was doing some of my resto's.

Tommy,

I just acquired another Benora. A 1953 version that I am going to strip and restore.
I am going to document the entire process, as these are very unique, internally.
Stay tuned for a new Benora resto post!

Cheers!
