Hello I just bought this mint Everol 6/0 2 speed. Anyone know how I can determine age? Any problems I should look out for in these reels?
Thanks

Generally you can get a time frame based on the faceplate color. The earlier ones were black. They had green, red, gold and blue. John Taylor would be the one to know. Hopefully he will chime in.

They have a serial number. If you email everol with the # they can narrow the range down. They did for me.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Or Email. I have dealt with the owner's son several times and he is a pleasure to deal with.

Can only see from your picture that it was made sometime after 2003-ish

You also asked if there were any problems to look out for - nope.
Everols, even those from the 1950s, just keep going and any issues are quickly resolved by the gentleman at Everol.

Funny thing is that a 6/0 Everol I serviced a while back - something over a year - has been on a charter boat ever since. I've just heard it has lost its maximum drag. I suspect the springs have finally worn out as this is a very old reel, though in excellent condition.

I'll be replacing the springs later this week when I go fishing with that skipper in the Canary Islands so hope to report it is functioning 100% again.

Just a quick update...
Replaced all the springs with new ones back in July whilst sitting in the sun in La Palma enjoying a beer. I was feeling under the weather so didn't join the others on the boat that day. Beer and paracetamol worked a treat  ;D  (Got a nice blue marlin the next day though on my stand-up 50 - Star 50-80 rod, Tiagra 50W and favourite Merlin lure.)

Anyway, the Everol 6/0 reel was back to full working order.

We discovered the skipper had always put the drag lever fully forward when washing down at the end of the day, and left it like that till it was next used again, which was often a week or more at a time  :'( . A quick bit of advice about backing off the drag and I trust we won't encounter the same issue next year.
