Hi,

This monster red drum was caught on Back River Reef, Chesapeake Bay Virginia, 15 or so years ago while fishing for tautog. Occasionally we catch large red drum while tautog fishing but nothing this size. Illegal to keep so I just tagged her and released.
After tossing the buoyed anchor line we chased this big fish for a few miles before boating her. As I recall the fight lasted about 30-40 minutes.

This looked like an "outreach" pic until I saw the part about the chase and the 40 minute fight. It's starting to seem quite reasonable now. That's one heck of a red! One of my favorite species.

Not an "outreach" Jason...this drum was far too heavy to longarm for a picture. 53" long
