7' 3wt fiberglass blank, in 4 pieces so I can hide it in a backpack and not need to answer the inevitable question from hikers, "catchin' anything ?"

found a Heddon 310 fly reel to go with it. That's an imitation of the Hardy Flyweight reel, made in Japan in the 70s. It seemed appropriate for a fiberglass rod..

put on one of the modern agate stripping guides, to make the rod as John Gierach says about trout themselves, prettier than it needs to be.
The color scheme of olive tipped with red is a homage to the Hardy fiberglass rods of the 80s. I never owned one, my brother had one and always enjoyed fishing it.

I have a 7 foot fly rod a buddies Dad built on a Fenwick blank for me when I was in my 20's.  I have both a Martin MG-3SS reel and a Ryobi 255Mg magnesium lightweight for it.

When we were young we used to fish along brush covered stream edges and would have to lean out to cast. He made it a custom length to accommodate the short casts.

I had a favorite fly that caught a bunch of trout until it fell apart.  So much fun from one fly.  I'm too old to remember what it was, but it looked like a mosquito.

I had no casting style then and still don't know how.  Thanks for triggering a memory.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.
